ParcelParcel Packaging requirements

You can read our packaging requirements below.

1. Provide a suitable box

In order to send your package as Safely as possible, it is essential that the box is well-matched to the dimensions of your package. First, note the dimensions (Length x Width x Height in cm) of the total content. Then add 15 cm to each dimension (Length x Width x Height) to have enough space for both the content and the stuffing material.

2. Take pictures of the inner and outer packaging

In order to be able to demonstrate that your package has been properly packaged in the event of damage or loss, we advise you to take photos during the packing process. Therefore, take photos of at least the inner and outer packaging that also show the product you want to send.

3. Protect the artwork (for paintings)

If your painting contains a glass plate, it is recommended to tape two diagonals across the glass plate to increase stability. If the painting has a base of oil paint then it is advisable to place tracing paper over the canvas. This protects the cloth against dust and moisture damage.

Then cut a cardboard sheet that is equal to the dimensions of your painting. Make sure there is another layer of bubble wrap between the cardboard plate between the glass or cloth. When you have cut out the cardboard plate, place it on the glass plate or on the canvas (if not a glass plate) and tape the plate to the painting.

4. Make the package shockproof

Prevent the contents of the package from being damaged by shocks, for example during the movement of the package in the sorting process of the carrier. Wrap the contents 8 cm thick in bubble wrap on all sides.

Extra filling material such as cardboard also contributes to this. The corners of the box are often very vulnerable, so provide corner profiles for extra reinforcement.

5. Fill in all the empty spaces

Then place the content in the packaging of your choice. Fill all empty spaces in the package with filler material to prevent the contents from sliding around. It is recommended to use bubble wrap as a filling material.

6. Transport insurance

Close your parcel using tape with the so-called “H Taping Method” (see illustration).

Tips

  • Use a robust type of tape for the best protection.
  • For fragile contents, stick “Fragile” stickers on your package.
  • Your package must be able to fall from 1 meter to test whether you have packed the package well enough.
  • Always put an extra shipping label in the box in case it gets removed from the box. This way, your package can be found faster in the event of a missing item.
  • Never save on the packaging of your parcel because the financial consequences of damage to the contents are always greater than the costs of the packaging material.
