Track your FedEx shipment

Common FedEx statuses

Customs clearance delay

FedEx: “Clearance Delay Import” (code CD)

The shipment is delayed at customs in the destination country.

What to do? Receiver: contact FedEx in your country to check whether anything is needed to clear the shipment. Sender: usually no action is needed from you.

Shipped with ParcelParcel? We keep an eye on your shipment.

Delivery exception

FedEx: “Delivery exception” (code DE)

FedEx could not deliver the shipment. Often this is because nobody was available or the business was closed.

What to do? Receiver: contact FedEx to arrange a new delivery. At a private address, FedEx usually leaves a note with the details.

Return to sender

FedEx: “Return to Shipper” (code RS)

The shipment is being returned to the sender.

What to do? Not sure what to do? Contact FedEx or the sender.

Where to find your FedEx tracking number

To track a FedEx shipment you need its tracking number. A FedEx tracking number is usually 12 digits long, for example 123456789012.

  • Sent it yourself through ParcelParcel? The number is in your booking confirmation e-mail. You also see it in MyParcelParcel, under your shipments.
  • Waiting for a parcel from someone else? Ask the sender for the tracking number, for example the web shop or the company that shipped it.

Does your number look like GE123456789CN, or is it 9 digits? Then it is probably a TNT shipment. TNT is part of FedEx, but TNT shipments are tracked on tnt.com. See our TNT tracking page.

How to track your FedEx shipment

There are two ways to follow your shipment:

  • With the tracking box at the top of this page. Enter your number and you see the status of your shipment.
  • On the FedEx website. Go to the FedEx tracking page and enter your number there.

No result yet? Then your shipment has most likely not been scanned. Try again later.

What the tracking statuses mean

Along the way your shipment gets several statuses. Most of them are simply updates: your parcel has been collected, sorted or is on its way to the next location. Sometimes you see a status that needs attention, such as:

  • "Delivery exception": delivery did not succeed, for example because of a problem with the address.
  • "Clearance Delay Import": the shipment is delayed during customs clearance.
  • "Customer not available or business closed": nobody was there to receive the parcel.

On our page about FedEx tracking statuses you can read what each status means and whether you need to do anything. Seeing a status like "sorted"? Read what it means when a shipment is sorted.

Shipment delayed, stuck or held at customs?

Sometimes a shipment does not go as planned. A document is missing, the address is wrong or customs needs more information. What to do depends on who you are.

Frequently asked questions

How many digits does a FedEx tracking number have?

A FedEx tracking number usually has 12 digits. If your code contains letters, or looks like GE123456789CN, it is probably a TNT number. Check with the sender if you are not sure.

My tracking number shows no result. What now?

First check that you copied the number correctly. Is it correct? Then your shipment has probably not been scanned yet. Try again later. Still nothing after the parcel was collected? Contact the sender, or contact us if you booked through ParcelParcel.

Are FedEx and TNT the same?

TNT is part of FedEx. Even so, you track a FedEx shipment on fedex.com and a TNT shipment on tnt.com.

Who contacts FedEx when something goes wrong?

The sender, because they booked the shipment. Shipped through ParcelParcel? Then we do it for you. You get an e-mail from us as soon as your shipment has a status that needs attention.
